Starling / Labs
About

We only build for this world.

Music, performance, nightlife, the rooms where it all happens. That's not a market segment we picked off a slide — it's where we already spend our time, and it's badly served by software built by people who've never loaded in at 4pm or closed out a bar at 2am.

How we think about it

A few things we believe

Not a methodology. Just the handful of rules that keep showing up in what we make and what we refuse to make.

  • 01

We know the deadline is a show

Not a sprint, not a quarter — a night with a door time. Everything we build assumes you're up on Friday whether you're ready or not.

  • 02

    One app, one job

Lyric Lab learns you a song. Liquid Candy keeps a bar consistent. Neither one is going to grow into a suite with a dashboard you never asked for.

  • 03

Nobody has time to learn our app

You've got a set to run and a bar to open. If it takes a tutorial, we built it wrong. You should be able to pick it up during a break and get it.

  • 04

    You can talk to us

We're small. When you tell us something is broken or annoying, the person who reads it is the person who can fix it, and often does that week.

Where we come from

Part of Hous of The Darling Starling.

Starling Labs is the software side of a bigger creative house. That's the short version of why we build for performers: we are around them constantly, and we keep watching them fight with tools that were never made for them.
